Industry News: Everything You Need To Know About Drostanolone
Fame and success may lead quite a number of people to do things that would eventually hurt their career. Take the case of celebrities and athletes who resort to drugs to either take the edge off or enhance their performance. Case in point: Newcastle Knights rugby superstar Jarrod Mullen was recently slapped with a provisional ban for testing positive to an anabolic steroid called drostanolone.
According to a news release, Mullen has not confirmed nor denied the use of the steroid, but said that he will wait for the B-sample test. Should the second sample turn out to be positive, he will accept the ban or elevate the matter in court. A positive test may merit Mullen with a four-year ban from the National Rugby League under its anti-doping policy.
What is Drostanolone?
Drostanolone is a medium strength anabolic steroid with an anabolic rating of 62-130 and low adrogenic strength of 25-40. It is distributed in the market under the brand names Masteron and Dromostanolone.
The steroid drug comes in two variants:
This was developed in 1957 but became popular in the 1970’s under the brand name Masteron, which was manufactured by Syntex.
Because of its strong anti-estrogenic properties, Masteron was used as a treatment for inoperable breast cancer, but increased in popularity as a bodybuilding agent that athletes use in preparation for a competition.
The variant was sold under various brand names, but it was Masteron that was the most popular. Masteron is no longer used as a treatment for breast cancer because of the other options available.
Commonly referred to as a strictly underground anabolic steroid, this variant was developed based on the discontinued variant of Drostanolone propionate (Masteron).
It boosts strength even with low calorie intake. It is also found out to be helpful in muscle endurance and recovery
How is Drostanolone Formulated?
Just like all other anabolic steroid analogues, drostanolone is a derivative of three natural occurring anabolic steroids in the body:
This endogenous androgen sex steroid and hormone has an essential role in the formation of male external genitals. It acts as the primary androgen in the seminal vesicle, skin, prostate gland and hair follicles.
It is an anabolic steroid that is derived from testosterone.
The primary sex hormone in men is also used as a treatment for male hypogonadism and certain types of breast cancer. It is secreted by the testicles of males, as well as the female ovaries (although to a much lesser extent).
How is Drostanolone Administered?
Masteron is injected into the muscles of the buttocks, triceps and shoulders. It acts in combination with any growth hormone with the dosage of 40 IU/day.
Uses of Drostanolone
Drostanolone was popularly known as the trade name Masteron, but the manufacturing of such brand has been discontinued in the 1990’s. Drostanolone propionate is used by bodybuilders as part of their preparation for competition.
Some of the uses of drostanolone are as follows:
- Strength booster
- Breast cancer treatment
- Preparation for competition: It retains muscle strength while getting rid of body fat. It is this “hardening effect” that provides the vascular appearance of bodybuilders on stage.
- Increased lean muscle
- Enhanced athletic performance: Athletes who use drostanolone say that they experience better performance because it increases strength and cuts down on fat.
- Aromatase inhibitor: This helps in reducing estrogen activity.
Signs of Masteron Use
People who use Masteron / drostanolone may exhibit the following signs and symptoms:
- Increased hemoglobin
- Darkening and thickening of hair
- Increase in levels of IGF-1 and MGF hormones
- Increased in collagen synthesis
- Increased in bone mineral content
- Anti-catabolic effect on muscle tissues
- Heightened self-esteem

Side Effects of Drostanolone Use
Just like other drugs used outside of their designed purposes, misuse of the drug may have unfavorable effects such as:
- Increased aggression
- Poor cholesterol level
- Hair loss
- Elevated blood pressure
- Low natural testosterone
Legality of Drostanolone
Drostanolone propionate is listed under Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act, but is illegal in some countries. Anyone caught in possession is fined $250,000.00 and three years in prison. Although it has an acceptable medical purpose, the substance has a potential for abuse and dependence.may
The drug is legal to buy in countries like Mexico, Turkey, Greece and other Asian countries from pharmacies where buying anabolic steroids without prescriptions is possible.
Drostanolone is extremely expensive in the black market. In fact, the steroid is considered as one of the most counterfeited drugs, which makes the drug significantly riskier to human health.
